Why is the cash for clunkers program not taking real clunkers?
Michael Molino: Missed Clunkerdom by 1 Mpg Traded: 1992 Buick Century 19 mpg Bought: Nada I thought my trusty rusty ride was a sure bet to qualify. But my Buick gets 19 miles per gallon just missing the 18 m.p.g. cutoff to count as a clunker. I feel cheated it doesnt seem like a very inclusive program. I am in the market for a car and I was shut out. I know they want to get the big gas guzzlers off the road but its unfair that a 3yearold Hummer gets the tradein while a 26yearold car doesnt qualify. A lot more vehicles should be included and the program should consider other elements like steady employment. Its just frustrating. I volunteered for President Obama at the phone banks. I got my transparency but I dont particularly like what I see. http://finance.yahoo.com/familyhome/article/107474/whatigotwithcashforclunkers.html?modfamilyautos

Sorry you missed out by just one gallon but to be truthful there has to be a cutoff point somewhere. If it was 19 MPH the the person who got 20 MPH would be yelling. The if we made exceptions for certain cars everyone would want one.
